It is some sort of grand piano, alone in the cold... Abandoned, old... Pianist has taken his chair, conductor has left his baton on the snow, everybody has gone. Soon even piano will be covered with snow, but for now it is the only island of warmth, fighting against the ice with remnants of music within.
I think that author made a good job. The composition of this photo shows us a great vastness behind the structure in the front (some sort of jetty, maybe). That intensifies the feeling of cold, loneliness and abandonment, but accent still remains on the structure as main thing.
